cabin fever

While the snow has enveloped most of the east coast, we here on the west coast are experiencing rain, in tides of wet sheets, throughout the final holiday weekend. Yesterday we were without power, but all systems are go today. The christmas tree inside glows steadily upon the manic face of cabin fever, who manifests itself in the form of one particular reckless imp, screaming like a V2 rocket on descent, fording (quite literally) puddles outside and back in again into the post-yule cosiness. He’s oblivious to inner sanctum, to either of us cerebral souls at guitar or computer, and instead vaults over sofas, boxes and amplifiers at breakneck speed.

There is one among us, tired of an arygle sweater, bringing the whole scene into sharp relief:

And the rain continues to pour, then abate, then weep again, the whole state of California in catharsis.

  1. Love the photos. Love your little dog. Why didn’t I know you have a Jack? We’re contemplating one as our future doggie – but have reservations about all that is Jack as a pet. Thoughts?

  2. hey you! so glad to see you in the new year— I had given up (after checking and checking here) figured you’d taken a break and WOW look at the art you are doing! hooyah! love it— and strawberries? bulbs? ah, californina—- my true home.

  3. What a fabulous post! Love those photos! Reading this made me realize that maybe that’s what I should have done to beat back cabin fever in the islands…should have spent time just running and leaping through our condo! 🙂

  4. why yes, I have thoughts on owning a Jack, Kristin! Think it over hard 🙂
All the information you can read on Jacks is pretty true (go to the JRTerrier Assoc. of America or something) and remember that the bottom line is that they’re tenacious and always wanting to play with you. But it gets so much easier and mellow after they turn 10 or so 😉 which is Seti’s age. But oh, so much fun they are. And TOUGH. I love them.

  5. Hi, Steph! Write to me (pdq@pdq.net) I can’t seem to leave a comment with the absolutely stunning strawberry piece you posted. Let me know if it’s for sale! We’re heading to the Netherlands in 2008 for a couple of years, and I’ll need your advice on setting up some sort of blog (though I am a bit humbled by your effort and others out there!).

    xo, ME

  6. I’ve been waiting for you to tell me about the move!!! I’m emailing you but I have been having problems (all over the place) sending mail this weekend…suffice it to say I’m thrilled you want to blog the adventure (I’ll help you however I can) and yes, you can have the strawberries…think of it as a housewarming gift, or thanksgiving for the hand-them-downs 😉
    Do you leave very soon?

    xo
